Help, I don't know anything about ducks...I have chickens! We came home around noon yesterday to find our dog sleeping with a duck under one of our vehicles. The duck is very attached to her, but not in a good way I think. The duck pecks at her skin and follows her everywhere. She can escape to the porch but the duck is there as soon as she comes down. I tried feeding the duck the starter feed I have for chickens but it wasn't very interested in it. I did fill up a big tub with water and it loved that. I don't want it to get sick by not eating, What should I do? The duck seems obsessed!
Thanks, Sheila

The duck is tame..it lets me pick it up with no problem and actually seems to like it. Poor Daisy's mouth is sore from the duck plucking at it...

don't worry. that duck is not underfed.. It is eating something, somewhere.. I would leave things as they are.. somebody close by lost that duck.. they do not usually fly very far..

As long as it is hanging with the dog, I would not worry about predators..

they make a nice couple..

OMG that is adorable! That duck is VERY lucky that dog is use to chickens at least because being a *duck dog* it would be his nature to be the opposit of nurturing.

Do you think that maybe that is someones tame Mallard that flew & now doesn't know where to go or what to do? A mallard can be wild but they can be hatched out or purchased from hatcheries too. I think people have to clip wings or they can fly though & maybe this one did?

BTW that dog deserves a soup bone.

Forage on it's own? Really? I have been so worried about food for it. Any ideas what kind of duck it is? Here is a link to a youtube video showing how attached it is to the dog:

Not sure, I have a lake out back but I have NEVER seen ducks on it. We live pretty far out in the sticks. We do have neighbors, but they have horses and goats. No ducks. This is so weird!!
