My Dog Brought Home a Duck....help!

Quote:
Isn't that a terrible thought! It does happen with cats here. People drive them out and leave them. My lake does have road access at one point, so I suppose it's possible someone could drop it off in the lake.

I'm going now to take it down to the lake and see what happens.

Arghhhh! No it won't.

Well, the good news is that it's not medicated anyway. I figure the chickens should try and make it on their own without medicated stuff if they can. Less is better in this case, I think.

ditto; ARRRGH !!

as long as we are at it, duck dogs and bird dogs are not bred to kill ducks and birds.. they just retrieve them, and gently so as not to mess up the feathers.. a good dog will bring back a wounded bird without killing it..

Yep, Khaki Campbell... Looks just like mine did

I wish I was lucky enough to have such a cute, friendly duck show up at my house!! They are EXCELLENT foragers. During the summer I really didn't need to give them much feed at all, but they would come up to the feeding spot and DEMAND their grain! By demand I mean Quack (and honk in the geese's case) as LOUD AS POSSIBLE! I loved it

I might get flogged for this, but I fed mine sweet feed.

I'd feed the mini's that we had at the house, and then the goats, and then the ducks/geese. They were very happy and healthy birds - never lost one! Good luck with your quacker

I'm glad others noticed that behavior...my 2 'Scovy ducks aren't males, but they are okay with dogs. They will, however, let the dog know when she's too close. The 'open mouth' thing from the duck in the video doesn't look friendly. It reminds me much of the swans at the lake. The male swans would hiss and have his mouth open as I passed, like a threat, a warning.

Mr. Drake seems to have some sort of love hate relationship with your Daisy.

It looks almost like he's walking up to her saying, "You wanna piece of me? I'm not done with you yet!" NOT friendly. That's just plain odd.

If you do keep the duck, I wouldn't let him out with the dog around. She may eventually get sick of being abused-though not too quickly from the looks of it-and snap. Like a little kid poking a teenager with no parent around. Patience and tolerance comes first but soon, with no enforcement, there will be trouble.
