I am currently out of town attending the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, FL. On Wednesday I got a terrible call from my bf, my normally sweet and well behaved dog killed one of my BRs. My bf had apparently left my dog staked out in the back yard while he ran errands, and also left the chickens out- when he returned home Brody had pulled the stake out and one of the chickens was dead- worst of all he can't tell my BRs apart so I don't even know which one is gone! I am heart broken. Lesson learned- the dog is not trustworthy. I wish I was home!
Sorry for your loss. Most dogs can't help themselves. If it runs from them they chase it. That's there nature. You have to really watch dogs around chickens. I constantly remind my dogs every couple days. I look at them and say " you better leave my chickens alone." They just crotch down and that's that.
That's so sad! My aunt has both lots of chickens and lots of dogs. She is a 4-H dog trainer and she has trained all of her dogs to leave the chickens alone. Maybe try some dog training?
