For the original poster of this thread: The posts about your dog have been rather blunt, and I must say that I, too, have the same feelings. But let's not dwell on the "dog" ... let's fix the problem! If you are using regular chicken wire....stop! You will need to replace with 1/2" hardware cloth .. much much stronger and will withstand attacks by dogs and predators. If you have 'holes' here and there that are not predator-proofed, do so at your earliest convenience. It doesn't take a 'hole' more than 1-2" - 2" for raccoons and weasels to get in..think like a predator and you'll spot problem areas for sure. Predators, dogs included, will dig there way to China to get under and in a coop and/or run. Here is an example of how to solve that...you need to extend your hardware cloth down about 6-8" and out about 10-12", then recover with dirt, etc. Some people even put shattered glass in the hole for more protection. If by "chicken wire" you are meaning the standard hex wire also commonly sold as "poultry netting" I would suggest you re-wire your entire pen with something much hardier. Poultry netting does a great job of keeping birds IN, but is useless at keeping much of anything OUT. Now that you know you have a dog issue you are doing yourselves, your dog and your birds a disservice if you don't beef of the wire used to create a more effective barrier between canine and chicken.
Again I'm so very sorry for your losses, but now that the initial trauma is over with it's time to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and get things reinforced....
