My dog perks her ears up and licks her lips when she hears the chicks chirping. She also gets near the brooder, so should I be worried?

It means you need to keep your chicks safe from the dog.

You don't necessarily want to punish your dog for wanting chicks. Mine would have probably eaten chicks too if he were left alone with them - that's what many dogs would like to do.

Where are the chicks? Are they in a room where you can keep the door closed so the dog can't go in there unless she's with you?
Is your outdoor coop/run ready so chicks can go outside in a short period of time?

She should not be off leash around chicks/chickens or left unattended with them. Dogs are predatory animals and birds are prey. Through training she may be more reliable.
