my dog saved my chickens tonight!!!

Here where I live, on the East coast of FLorida, it is not uncommon to see raccoons out in broad daylight!!! I would say, YES, he will be back and will probably bring reinforcements. Lock those chickens up really, really tight and do it before it gets dark. Plus, keep an eye out in the early evening while it is still light. Don't be surprised when you see him and his family looking for a meal.

Great story! I wonder if she made the connection that the coon was a threat to the birds and that she must protect them. I have an 800 lb Welsh Pony in with my birds so ground attack is not very likely anytime she is out with my free rangers, lol

A guard pony!!! I need one!

I agree with everybody else. You have a great dog there and deserves lots of treats and pets. Also, should have gone and gotten the shotgun while it was treed. Now you'll have to wait for it to come back becaue it will. I would destroy it as soon as possible to prevent it form attatcking your dog or getting to your flock.

Lol! She does the job too. She has flipped a cat over before and ran it off. She paces the fence line when my mixed lab goes over to visit. I like her being there.

Agreed. I am always looking for an excuse to use a shotgun around the farm as I am a hunter and marksman. If I had a coon treed, I wouldn't think twice about it. Pull out the 12 gauge and boom! Problem solved. Thats just me though.

My hubby wasn't home or he would have shot the thing. I don't know how to shoot a gun--maybe it is time to learn. I locked them up good in the coop last night. Today, I had my dog out there with them in the early evening to deter the raccoon. My hubby and I were outside last night in the dark and heard a raccoon fighting with something in the woods--sounded like something was trying to get the coons babies--we could hear the babies crying. Hopefully there are a few less coon babies today.
