This morning, My dog Eva was barking her head off. I ran outside and told her to quit it thinking she was barking at the neighbors.

Then I saw the chickens were all panicing and hiding under the coop. Eva wasn't barking at the neighbors...she was barking at a huge crow in the trees over the pen.

I saw a bald eagle a mile from my house yesterday and we of course have hawks too. It nice to see that Eva's trying to protect her "pack" from threats from the sky even if the barking is a bit annoying. I also remember that she was growling at a blue bird in a tree last week too. I still feel like I want to

her. How do you explain to a dog that a crow isn't really a threat not to mention a blue bird, but to alert at an eagle or hawk.

I think I'd let her keep up her alerting and I'd do the investigating!

At least she's letting you know "something" is up out there! Now when she starts
letting you know about every airplane that flies over like my Border Collie Jessie, maybe it will be
time to start trying to shape the behavior! One of these days Jessie is going to run head-long into
a tree the way she runs around the yard with her head up chasing the airplanes!

Barking at airplanes would not be fun!

Lots of small planes go over head just about every day. I'm just on edge about barking. My neighbor's have two labs that bark their fool heads off ALL night, EVERY night. I'm always checking on my girls to see if they are the ones barking. Last night I checked on my dogs four times to see if they were the ones barking. 10 pm, 12am, 2am and 4am. Nope, my girls were sound asleep in the garage each time I checked. But the barking went on and on. I worry about the neighbors dogs. They are proven escape artists and chicken killers. They said they would re-home them, but that was last month. Poor things are penned in a dog kennel 24/7. I hope they find a home soon.

Actually I can't complain....she only barks a couple of yelps then it's just the chase. I have 4 dogs and they rarely bark. One of them spent the night on the deck because I forgot she was out and she won't bark at all. BAD ME but luckily it wasn't cold.

Sorry for getting off track here!

Dogs around our house NEVER SHUT UP. We live under teh major flyroute (or whatever you call it) for the Alantic City airport and the Lakehurst-McGuire-Dix Federal base complex.

On the good side, the yappy chis next door let us know about any raccons or people in our front yard too.

Good dogs. *pat pat *

be glad your dark barks at the crows...it could have been the eagle or a hawk. I have a boxer and she barks when she sees someting, but mostly to tell me...dad, let me in I see something and I am scared....

I wish I had a dog that barked at things in the sky, IMHO it 's really not that bad a thing, better to have few false alarms than to come out to a pile of feathers. If the nighbors don't complain about their barking, I guess I'd just sigh and pat them for giving off alarms. . .
