I have a 4 week old khaki Campbell who was hatched and being reared by 2 Silkie chickens. I have had chickens for 5 years. Rocky is always interested in the chicks, will herd them a bit if they escape into the living room. But the duck has got him going. He will sit at the fence in the back yard and whine at it. If the duck moves up he fence line, Rocky does too.

Has anyone ever seen this kind of fascination?

Thanks

Although I have never personally owned a chicken, I do have a parrot and I believe I know what is going on. I have a miniature poodle and because he is jealous of the parrot (If it gets attention because he wants it all. Do you pay extra attention to the duckling and has the dog ever been the kind to get jealous of others?

Well the duck is getting lots of "he's so cute". But we don't hold it because he doesn't like it and neither do his adoptive mamas It might be jealousy but I was thinking more of love. Not sure. Maybe the dog imprinted with the duck, lol

If the duckling imprinted with the dog that would be adorable but there's no safe way to know :( . I would recommend trying to spend extra time with the dog and then you could eliminate the possibility of jealousy. Does the dog only do it in the cage or does he do it even when you're with him?
