We raise a batch of about 25 peeps in our spare bathroom each spring. My two labs love to sniff, watch and 'guard' them. When the peeps get bigger one will occasionally escape from their box. It cries loudly, and the dogs run in to 'point' at the chick until we get there to put it back. They keep everybody from leaving the bathroom, even if the door is open.
A few days ago I watched a show on PBS about raising chickens. One of the chicks suddenly squawked very loudly on TV. Both of the dogs jumped up and ran into the bathroom, where they searched everywhere for the peep! They seemed confused when they didn't find anything. I think they're ready for us to raise another batch. Lucky for them, we have an order coming from McMurray on Monday. I can't wait!
