I am new to keeping indian runners, we started with two females and added a drake, they group togeather and get on famously then my son brought home three new additions that were only 3-4months old but our drake ripped the fur of the back of one of them so we seperated them.We thought maybe he sensed that it was another male at first. The new ones are almost fully grown now and have their adult feathers, none have a curly tail so we think they are all females. We have introduced them again, but he is still attacking them. What is the problem and what is the solution.I welcome any ideas

Although not as vicious as chickens can be- ducks still have a pecking order- and the drake is just showing the new comers he is the boss. How long did you leave them separated for? Penning them so the two groups can see each other- ( just like chickens ) is a good way to go about introducing them without fear of the newcomers being picked on.

Some drakes do not take to new additions as well as others. I would suggest taking your drake out of the flock and pen him off to himself near them and letting the new additions figure out their place with the hens. Then after a few days you can put the drake back in. It may take more than a few days if he is really intent on the new ones.

I have had them separated for about 2 months, although they can still see each other through the fence and I do let them back into the same enclosure at bed time but they have a separate shed to sleep in but he is still intent on being nasty to them
