Hi I have a 6 month old female indian runner ducK called Dappy. She used to be so needy like I couldn't even leave the room for a wee without her calling me and when I came home she's get really excited and quack for me before I even got up stairs like as soon as she heard my voice. Now though when j call her name she ignores me. She barley huggles me Angmore ahes aggrieive towards me and she dosent follow me or quack when I leave the room anymore. She seems to be happy on her own (she's the only duck I have) it makes me sad because I was ready for lots of years to come with my needy duck best friend and j really miss her I miss feeling needed now I feel like I could leave and she wouldn't care. She used to love coming on my bed with me (on a blanket of course) for cuddles and we'd fall asleep together for little naps. Now wen she comes on my bed she stays standin up rearly gets on me and can't wait to get back to her pen.

This is really upsetting me please can someone help me get my duck to love me agshin

unfortunately as ducks and chickens get older they need people less and less its just nature but I would say a way to a ducks/chickens heart is treats!!!

edited to put they need people/mothers less and less

But she's only 6 months old is this common for female Indian runners?? I just miss her so much

Yes in fact it is common in all animals its why we all hatch chicks and ducks every year

I do suggest you get 1 or 2 other ducks for company though think of it this way a human cant be raised by ducks its whole life it wont be able to socialize! Know that she still loves you though and like I said ducks love treats and those who give them

She sounds like a teenager lol poor thing you literally have empty nest syndrome haha! At least you were such a great duck mama that you raised her to be independent and confident. Maybe get another duckling to raise up? I'm sorry you're sad...

I'm thinkig Id having her in my bed for cuddles tonight haha she will love me!! Maybe it's because ive been so busy latly so haven't seen her much. I was thinking of eating another duck for her but j was worried she may not take to it as she was the o ly egg that hatched out of 24 and she's never seen ankthwr duck before she's only
Known me as her mum and my boyfriend as daddy duck. She gets jealous if I hug my cat would she become jealous of the other duck? Xx

no in fact she would enjoy the company and you can get them to play together just introduce them slowly you don't want a fight if one is smaller

Would it be better if I got a baby duck? And my mum is saying no because Dappy lives in my bedroom and she said two ducks would smell it's a shame j just want Dappy to be happy she dosent seen lonely though x

IMO ducks should live outside but she may enjoy it just make sure she gets the chance to swim if you get another get one that is her age and know that it is a little unhealthy for ducks to be on there own they are a flock animal

Yeah I know it's not good for them but she dosent seem to be unhappy she does a little tail wiggle when she's happy it's funny because you know when you've annoyed her and she's never bored like she stairs at the wall sometime sat night and I go play with her or add a teddy and ahes right as rain. Thankfully I've slept through her loud toys that she plays with at night haha. I would like another duck but I worry that as she's grown for 3 days old band raised by me and me only that she won't enjoy me being with another duck. Would you surggest if I got another one I make them both live outside?
