My Duck eggs are getting Smaller

I have a mallard duck which so far has only laid a few eggs. But yesterday she laid the tiniest of eggs about the size of a quail egg. Both ducks seem very happy and have fresh water and food on a daily basis, is there any reason for this or is it just because she is new to laying.
