I'm sorry for your loss.

I had a pair of call x mallard crosses that were happy as can be, then one day a hawk attacked last fall. I came home to find only one duck, that was beside herself. The boy was gone. The hawk came back the next day and the girl flew away. I found her scared in the neighbors yard, but couldn't entice her back home. I cried when she flew off when I went after her.

I would bet that something would make one of yours fly away, as it's not normal for one to fly away and leave the other.

Because of this I ended up getting fatter ducks, went from tiny call crosses to pekins, a rouen and a swedish. They're too fat to fly and too fat to get attacked easily by hawks. It's working out well so far, I've had them about 7 months now.
