The past week my duck was attacked by my dog, she lost all the feathers on her back and got skin torn back on her neck, that we cleaned and stitched back together. We've been cleaning her wounds with fresh aloes and a wound wash since then. She wasn't eating for two days only sipping water. After the third day she only would eat lettuce and peices of bread. We noticed she can't/doesn't walk anymore and uses her wings to move around eventhough she was walking the first few days after the attack. We have now brought her around her flock and she seems happy and is making noise with them. She is a 1yr old Cayuga. We can't afford a vet but would like some advice, we don't want to dispatch her but we don't want her to suffer either. It's been 8 days since the attack.

Have you done a full body check for any injuries you might have missed from the initial attack? Does she react badly if you touch other parts of her back, belly, legs and feet? Is anything else swollen or feel hot to the touch?

is she still only eating bread and lettuce or has she resumed normal feed?

Never feed bread. If given the choice most ducks will fill up on bread, not eat other foods and end up malnourished which is the last thing she needs right now. A stomach full of bread will also weigh a duck down. Try plain yogurt, making a mash or fermenting her feed and scrambled eggs. Are you giving any type of vitamin supplement? Ducks will heal much faster when given an extra boost particularly with oral B vitamins. Did you give a complete head to toe body exam?

Sorry to hear your duck is having problems.

Could you post a few pictures of her wound? Is she eating, and drinking? Is she producing poops, if yes, could you post pictures? Do you have any antibiotics on hand?

We gave her a full body check and the only severely damaged place is her neck, her back has no damage just a lose of feathers, one wing by the joint is bruised and some of the skin is gone it is turning yellow in that area. We are going to try her with her feed today

We are trying her with her regular feed today and maybe mix it with some yogurt if she doesn't eat it. Wil also try the eggs if she doesn't want to eat her food. As far as vitamins the only ones we use to give our ducks sometimes was niacin and we also mixed apple cider to their water

As of this morning she was eating a little bit of her food. The first 2 images are of her wing by her her neck, the last was from her back. It was kinda hard taking the pictures because she didn't want me to touch her.
