I just noticed this morning my pekin was limping and not putting much weight on his right leg. I don’t see a sore on it so I’m thinking maybe he twisted it?

Sorry to hear about your drake.

Could you gently pick him up and run your hand up and down his leg looking/feeling for signs of redness, swelling, bruising, warmness, and any sign of swelling or laceration on his foot pads?

Are you under the impression this limp has been going on for a while, or do you think it happened overnight?

How old is he, and what is he being fed?

If he were mine, I'd probably set him in a pen area that restricts him from wandering around the yard too much, but at the same time making sure he has access to deep bathing water to relive the weight of his leg. Ultimately, if it is a minor sprain rest will be needed, but you might be able to speed the healing process by administering B vitamins, soaking him in magnesium sulfate every few days, or applying DMSO gel to the area in which you believe he injured.

He is 4 1/2 months old. I feed him Purina duck pellets. I’ll have to have someone help me get him tomorrow so I can get a better look at the foot. Thanks for the great tips! I’ll be sure to start doing all that tomorrow.

It just started today also. I didn’t see him limping yesterday.

Did you wash off the leg and bottom of foot with mild soap and water first, then inspect the bottom of his foot for signs of Bumble?

We currently have a duck with a similar limp because of a sprained ankle we are thinking with slight swelling. Might have to close him off in a smaller pen with one of his other buddy's for company for a few days. This will help limit his movement on it and will help it heal quicker.

Good luck and please keep us posted. :)
