Thank youI'm very sorry![]()
I hope you have better luck than me. I had a white peeking female duck that went lame about 8 months ago. I thought she might have injured it some way getting in or out of her baby pool. I do have something to help step into the pool though. After about two weeks there was no improvement so I took her to the vet. Her name was Stella. The vet couldn't figure out what was wrong and gave her a shot that didn't help anything. He thought it might be arthritis even though she was only 1 1/2 years old. I researched some information that said that a duck will eventually start limping if it is lacking enough niacin in it's diet. Well, I had been giving her some spinach as a treat and her feet were slanting in when she walked. I started giving her b complex vitamins on top of her meal worms every day. I thought it was slightly better and she even started laying eggs again for about two weeks. Then the lameness got worse after about another three weeks. I took her back to the vet and he gave her another shot which did nothing. I kept giving her the b complex vitamins every day hoping to turn things around. Nothing was any better. I had to start carrying her to the pool and back and forth to her food every day. Finally, I took her to another vet and he said it was a genetic development during her growth and there was nothing to do for it. That was about two weeks ago and now she died today. I loved Stella and am broken hearted. Neither of the vets wanted to take an Xray. I feel like a failure. Thanks for listening.I would give her a warm bath, 15 to 20 minutes long, which can help relax the muscles and get the egg to pass, and see if that helps at all. That would be a starting point. You can also try gently massaging her abdomen, but be very gentle because if there is a stuck egg too much pressure could break it inside her, which is a serious thing.
If that doesn't work, a trip to the vet isn't a bad idea. And then if it turns out it's not egg binding, they can probably tell you what it is and how to treat it![]()
