My Duck is Injured!!

Sunday night one of my ducks was attacked by a raccoon and I caught him in action!! My ducks were not pinned in the coop for the night because we were still outside. It was the most horrible thing to experience!! I was able to save my duck, but I need some advice. he has a really nastsy spot on his back. It bleed alot. Once I got the bleeding to stop I did not know what kind of medicine to put on him. I ended up using wound dressing that is for horses. I figured it could not be to bad for my duck? He is having trouble walking, but has no injuries underneath him. Does anyone have any advice for me? Do you think my duck will heal? Any information would be great as I have never had this happen before. We have a serious raccoon problem. We have been trapping them and still cannot get rid of all of them. We live beside a river so I think we will never get the problem under control. How can I keep the raccoons away?

Unfortunately, raccoons are very smart...and always hungry. Just keep trapping and remember to keep them in the pen at night. You could get a live stock guardian dog...or a donkey. Donkeys and even llamas protect other livestock.
