help, i have a new pekin drake who likes to flip? he sticks his butt up and plants his bill in the ground and somersaults over his bill landing on his back then righting himself, only to do it again moments later. Please help i dont think this is normal behavior.

:welcome We're happy to have you here!

This does sound like concerning behavior to me, but I've never experienced anything like it. Can you provide more information, like his age, what he's eating, how often he flips, and if you know anything about his life from before you got him. Hopefully other members who are experienced with symptoms like summersaulting ducks can use that information to help you.

I agree that uploading a video and posting the link here could be very helpful.

I know that he's about a year old and he flipped twice in the 10 minutes I had him in a large enough pen to flip, but no longer. I had him on 16% layer crumble but I know nothing of how he was raised before, the other lady couldn't take care of him anymore and I didn't have time to ask questions

I would take him off of the layer feed and switch to a maintenance/all flock feed. The calcium will kill his kidneys. I'm not saying by any means that's what's causing the flipping, but it definitely is not good for him.

What do you mean 'A pen large enough for him to flip, but no longer'?
If he's in an amount of space that he doesn't have the space to do that, that is bad. That's a terrible amount of space for you to keep him in.

A video is worth a thousand words here.

i put him in a smaller pen for both safety and biosecurity reasons, hes new to my flock so hes in isolation but his flipping can be extremely dangerous, he still has space to walk around just not to roll around
