I'm currently working on building a hoop-style run for my 11 ducklings and 4 chicks. I wanted to build something that would last and could be disassembled when I move. It's 14 x 22 feet, covered with welded wire. There should be about 20 square feet per bird. Still need to add hardware cloth at the bottom. I'm debating on covering part of the run with clear plastic panels so part of it would be free from snow and rain. Would that be recommended?

The house for the ducks is not insulated and the roof is made of plastic panels. I'm in western Illinois, so it will get down to 10 degrees Fahrenheit at night commonly. I was thinking of wiring a reptile ceramic heat bulb securely to the roof support. Would they be too cold?

I have a hoop house with a wooden house too. It has worked well for the last four years. I cover most of it with tarp in the winter to block the wind and keep the cold rain out (we don’t get a lot of snow). I pack hay or straw around the wooden house for insulation. I would not risk a heat lamp.
