My duck was attacked by a raccoon the night before last. He is badly hurt. The raccoon took all of the skin off of the back his neck from the base of his head to the top of his wings. It also blinded one of his eyes. I have no money to take him to a vet,so I have to help him myself. (Well, with the grace of God.) Anyway, I have been coating his neck in Neosporim and putting Amoxiciilin in his drinking water. I shower him in the bathtub every bandage change to make sure that it is kept clean then recoat in Neosporim and wrap with gauze. I am keeping him in a box in the house at night and taking him out for short periods of time, several times a day. I stand with him when he is outside. Is there anything else I should be doing for him? Do I need to get some kind of pain med for him? What are the chances of his skin growing back without a skin graff? He is a little over a year old and I have had since he was 1 week. He's my baby, please help! Thank You!

Im really sorry. That JUST happened to me not 2 hours ago. Something killed all my call ducks except 1 and he's probably not going to make it ( his throat got ripped open) . All i did for him was use disinfectant and corn starch to stop the bleeding. If there is anything else that can be done than what your already doing i don't know of it. About a year ago a snapping turtle ripped all the flesh around one of my 5 yo magpie's neck. I didn't do anything for her but put her in a cage with water ( i honestly thought she would die & didn't want to hurt her) but she's completely normal now, she can quack and everything. So basically i think you've done all you can. If it didn't cut to deep in his neck then skin might grow back. Or it could just completely scar over, which happened to my magpie. I cant guaranty feathers to grow back but you never know. Anyway best of luck with your duck, i know how it feels when they're hurt and don't know what else to do.

Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate your imput. Good luck with your duck and thanks again!

I had the same thing happen to my Runner duck. We took her to the vet who treated her they same way you are doing now. It took a few weeks of constant attention to the wounds, but our duck healed up. Her feathers over the wound grew back curly. The people at the vet's office were amazed. If you have the patience to keep your duck clean and medicated for a long stretch, have heart that it can survive. Good Duck-Luck.

go to your local feed and tack store and get either tricare , nu stock or banixx these are great products the tricare has a pain reliever in it ,
