I got this duck the other night. And I don't know if it's sprained or broke.... I'm taking it to the vets Monday. Just thought you all could tell me....

Might be a slipped tendon, could be an injury, a really good nutritious diet cannot hurt and may help.

Take a look at this page - in particular, slipped tendon references.

There are also a number of posts on the Duck Forum about it - you can search the archive - right under the BYC Banner at the top of the page.

I need to step away from the computer for a while - please keep us updated.

Does the little one have a name yet? Ducks are so resilient! Don't let the vet tell you to euthanize the duckling - I feel it is too early to make that decision, and unfortunately some vets, well, they don't get it.

I'm not gonna have the duck be put to sleep. I refuse to. I call her little ducky. She really don't have a name.

It's not a sprain and it doesn't look like a classic case of slipped tendon where the leg rotates outwards. Maybe broken? Maybe a niacin deficiency?

I was also thinking niacin deficiency. Not enough niacin in the diet can cause the legs to curl in like that. Definitely get the duck checked at the vet for other possible issues. Then consider adding extra vitamins and minerals to the food and/or water.
