I have a 4 day old mallard duckling who can't poop! I've noticed the past few days he's been sick... breathing heavily, and only eating and drinking very little. Today I watched him back up to poop several times with no luck. I picked him up and noticed crust around his bottom then noticed what I believe to be his "boy part". I washed off his bottom a messaged him until this "boy part" went back inside. I'm guessing it popped out while he was straining to poop. Is there something I can do? I've tried messaging him around his bottom, but still no luck. I feel so bad for him!!

Hmm this happens often w baby ducks it gets crusty on their behind try to clean his behind with a war damp cloth and try to gently coax him to eat
Good luck!!!

I tried... several times... wiped and massaged him with warm water and towel. He's backed up several times since then... no poop.

Which direction are you massaging in?

Does your duckling have any other symptoms?
I.e., temperature, water intake, food consumption, listlessness, solitary behaviour, et cetera.

Too late.

He didn't make it. I feel so horrible. The only thing I can think of is that maybe he had some intestinal issues.

Oh my gosh I am so sorry but I don't think it was your fault at all when u were explaining his symptoms it seems as though he was maybe born sick. Still I am so sorry

Thanks. I tried, but I do believe you're right...Something was wrong. Still I hate that he suffered and I couldn't help.

I'm still really sorry... It happens alot. To every good duck breeder at least some of them ducklings don't make it. I'm truly sorry for your loss but their will be other chances to raise ducks!!
