My duckling is bleeding from it's beak

Hi there,

I have a two week old pekin duck named Finn. I just noticed that he had some dried blood on the side of his beak. He is no longer bleeding, all I saw was dried blood. Right away I checked to make sure he had no cracks or peels on his beak - and he seems to be okay. I then gave him some water to wash away the dried blood. There was only blood on the side of his mouth, none in nostrils. He is acting normal - in fact I can't even type normal without him attacking my keyboard.

He did eat a small beetle before the dried blood, does that have anything to do with it? Maybe the beetle scraped him?

I am really worried, I love this little guy!

If he is acting normal I'd say he is fine. maybe the beetle cut the inside of his mouth while going down. Sounds like Finn is doing fine. Of course you don't get off the hook that easy we now need some pics of Finntheduck.

Just keep an eye on him. Biggest concern I would have is an infection, depending on how large the wound is, but more than likely it's one of those little things that won't become a problem.

If he seems to have any trouble eating, if there is any sign of swelling, any foamy eye, if the bill feels particularly hot, then I'd look into a vet visit if possible, or come up with a treatment plan.

Too bad you can't just tell him to gargle with salt water. But they don't generally gargle, they swallow. So that would not be good at all.

You might add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to his drinking water (per quart) for a couple of nights.

Thanks for the help! He seems to be fine! Question though, just noticed this - when he walks, one foot is crooked inwards where it lays over the other foot a bit. He runs just fine, trust me - he chases me lmao. The best way I can describe his feet is the shape of a V.

It is pretty common for Pekins to be a bit "pigeon-toed", where their feet turn in towards each other. It's a genetic thing. As long as he's able to get around fine, I wouldn't be too worried. Not a whole lot you can do about things like that, unfortunately.
