If they're 5 days old, they definitely need the heat lamp still. Do you have a thermometer in the brooder?Ok so I just removed the heat lamp (250 watt) and they immediately have become active again and are drinking waster and eating again, they also stopped shaking thank you so much I thought they were about to die.
So should I comepletely remove the heat lamp my ducklings are only 5 days old or should I figure out how to raise the lamp higher?
I do not have a thermometorIf they're 5 days old, they definitely need the heat lamp still. Do you have a thermometer in the brooder?
You really need a thermometer, as the temperature needs to be adjusted multiple times as they grow. For now, watch their behavior. If they're crowded under the lamp, they're too cold. If they're crowded away from the lamp, they're too hot. Adjust the lamp accordingly. The food and water should not be directly under the lamp. Are they getting niacin added to their diet? The heat lamp is about 2 feet high from the Bas of the brooder and it is a 250 watt Phillips heat lamp bulb
