My ducklings from Meyer hatchery arrived dead

How heartbreaking for you and those babies.

Oh Lynette, I am so feeling what you are right now. My duckings, too, all arrived dead this morning - my P.O. called and really hated to tell me. I am just crushed thinking of my 10 little peeps and I don't want to go get the box either, but have to to get he D&R so they can track the problem down. <*Hugs to you*>

I know how you both are feeling....I received the same phone call this morning from my post office. When I called the hatchery they told me the same thing about the truck....have to go pick up the box in a little while and am dreading it

poor babies never had a chance.

As many of you are reading in this thread, we did experience a horrible loss this week. The truck that many of our ducklings were on was randomly inspected at the scale. There was some sort of mechanical problem and the truck was forced to sit idle for some time. They weren't allowed, for some reason, to provide ventilation and many ducks perished as a result. We are deeply sorry for loss and the numerous hearts broken because of this tragic event.

If you or someone you know, received a duck order this week with losses, please call us at 1-888-568-9755 so that we may schedule a reshipment of ducks.

Again, we apologize for the tragic circumstances and hope you will give us the opportunity to ship you the ducklings you were looking forward to.

Its sad yes that so many little lives were lost due to such a dumb thing but I have to say that Meyers has always done a great job and I'm sure will clear this up asap. Good luck Lynette

Outstanding customer service, Meyer Hatchery - I know it's extremely frustrating when events beyond your control mess things up, and in this case there's nothing you could do differently to improve things in the future.

My best wishes to everyone in your company.

Bryan

Just got an email from Metzer about this.
I did not have any ducklings ordered but they are quickly trying to send more out. They can't do as much with the geese because they were sold out for the year but the ducklings they will try and replace for everyone within 2 weeks. I am sure that Metzer is very sorry for all this and Meyer is great to work with everyone that lost their new babies and will quickly get all replaced.

Heartbreaking but crap like this happens and I, for one, would not blame the hatchery. I am not even sure that a second truck could have come in and gotten them all moved before losing so many.

Thats really intersting. My mom works for the Sandusky, Ohio post office and she called me this morning to tell me they got a big box of ducklings in, but they were also all dead. They too were from Meyer Hatchery. When I got ducks a few years ago from Meyer (Polk, Ohio) they actually came all the way from California. However, my mom said the ones today came from Polk, Ohio. Sounds like a big problem on their end if you had this same exact problem that my mom saw this morning too. Sorry for your loss...

This event was definitely beyond the hatcheries control. It is still a sad loss, but these things do occassionally happen

sad but true. Meyer Hatchery customer service was extremely polite, thoughtful, and helpful earlier with me. They arranged to have more ducklings shipped out next week, and we had our littler burial for the others this afternoon. Thanks Meyer Hatchery for your great customer service.

I just feel bad for all those poor babies that died. I am not upset with Meyer Hatchery. I just don't understand why the person driving the truck didn't open it anyway. And whoever told them that they couldn't open the truck should get into some kind of trouble over it. Isn't it considered cruelty?
