It's standard procedure not to let folks pick the mail up at a different facility. In fact, during the storms this past winter my son's tenth birthday present was delayed over a week--it was sitting at the Fed Ex facility near our home and couldn't get to us because the delivery trucks weren't running. The office was open, but they would not let me pick it up. I was so upset until someone explained that they have to be careful because people can steal shipments by posing as the recipient and picking it up at the facility. They are required by policy to try to deliver the package at least once before allowing pick-up.

Of course, with live animals things are different, and it would be nice if they'd let you collect the poor critters. Another acquaintance of mine once lost some extremely valuable geese she had purchased from Holderread, the last of his stock of a breed he was no longer carrying, because a former president was visiting the town that day and the airport would not let her past security to pick up her birds. They sat on the hot tarmac all day, despite her many pleas and calls, and despite the "LIVE ANIMALS" stickers all over the box, and died of heat prostration and dehydration. Can you imagine??

Anyway, I'm glad your story ended well. Congrats! They're beautiful.

They are Black Bellied Tree ducks.. sometimes called Whistling ducks..
