His nails are so sharp! Last time I cut my ducks nail he screamed. Did it hurt him? I’m so scared that I did. But I can’t have them walking on my lap because it hurts. Do I file? Or cut?

I think it doesnt hurt unless you cut too short and it bleeds. so have the syptic powder on hand like with dog nails. however, ducks are afraid and they feel the little "pull" on the toe as the nail is being cut so they overreact.

I haven't had to cut my ducks' nails, but when I need to restrain chickens for "pedicures," I "taco wrap" them in a towel to help keep them from flailing around and getting hurt. Slipping the towel over the bird's head sometimes calms them down.

I agree with previous posters. Chickens and ducks don't have a lot of blood, so you want to keep as much as possible inside their bodies. But. if you trim carefully and take the least bit of nail necessary, it won't hurt your duck. I think cutting would be easier than filing; at least, it's quicker for both of you.
