i have 2 ducks, i put them in a small pen when they were little but as they have gotten larger i tried to introduce them to being out and about in the yard...that has not gone as planned, as soon as i get them out they both freak and circle the pen until i let them back. i tried moving them to a larger inclosed space as well with the same results.....any ideas?

They are very into routine and sticking with what is familiar. Two things that should work...treats and supervised swimming assuming they're youngsters. Things like kale, thawed peas, dried mealworms should motivate them to explore. Mine would also happily exit their pen when they knew it was time for a swim.

I agree with the above posts. Ducks do not adapt to change very well. You need to ease them out of the pen. You could try leaving the door open and slowing moving their food and water out of the pen. It would probably take several days to get them to walk out on their own but it would be the easiest route for them. My ducks only recently stopped freaking out when it rains.... its been raining non stop for 2 weeks though, they didnt have much of a choice. lol They are used to sitting on our lanai to get out of the rain, but they have been banned due to the poop they leave behind. Good luck!
