Will my two ducks welcome or become friends with two more ducks?

Hello, I’ve never used byc before but I figured I could use it for some help. I had 3 ducks Douglas carol and Todd. Unfortunately something has gotten Douglas which leaves Carol and Todd. Todd and Douglas spent all day together and Carol did her own thing. Now that Douglas is gone Todd is by himself a lot and I know ducks are social animals. If I get 2 more female ducks do you think they will just stick together and avoid Todd? Or would they hang out with Carol?

Perhaps I’m worrying about nothing, I just don’t want to get 2 ducks so Todd isn’t lonely, and end up having them not hang out with him.

I’m not sure what kind of duck Todd is but Douglas and Carol are Muscovy ducks if it means anything.

Welcome to BYC

Are you focusing on a certain breed? The best way to introduce newbies is to put them into some type of fencing, dog pens work [I buy the fold down pens and use them for many different things around here] well so the newbies get to meet the resident ducks without problems. it usually only takes 2-3 days of this to get them used to each other. But there still might be some squabbles but they usually work it out among themselves. My Muscovy females don't really like my Runner drake and since their mate died last year they spend the day together in a separate pen from my other domestics. They are old ladies too. Since Carol has always done her own thing you might want to consider a breed other than a Muscovy. That would give Todd a better chance of bonding. Todd maybe a Buff Orpington drake.
very sorry you lost Douglas.

Since my ducks just walk around with no pen or fencing do you suggest I get some sort of fencing and put all of the ducks in a pen to get them used to each other? They will all end up sleeping in a coop at night with the chickens as well so idk if that counts as bonding time or not. I found some ducks that someone is looking to sell one is a khaki Campbell and the other is a Cayuga, both females. Would those breeds be fine do you think? I’m not concerned about the kind of breed either just curious.

I appreciate the condolences for Douglas he’s the first pet I’ve lost in a long time so it’s been tough.

If me and I have done this numerous times I would put the newbies in the fencing out where the ducks and chickens hang out. This gives everyone a chance to get to know each other. In the coop can you put the 2 new girls overnight in a crate or something similar Chickens can be worse than ducks about Bullying. And their beaks can really hurt. It wouldn't be fair to the 2 new girls to be put inside right off without a way to get away from someone if they wanted to pick. Those breeds would be a fine addition. When I say portable dog fencing this is what I suggest or make something with spare wire you have.
