My duckventure+duckling grow along

I was wondering if I do end up with a drake accidentally, will they be ok being with the roosters? They are going to have a pretty large fenced in area

Also do laying duck hens need oyster shell? I'm finding mixed results online if it's ok or not. They'll be eating nutrena all flock feed

Thank you! I didn't order any drakes but they are going to live with some of my roosters.

My main concern would be your roosters overmating your ducks. With them not having chicken hens, they could certainly choose to mate your ducks as the next best thing.

I am not sure about drake with roosters. There could be fights for dominance. Absolute worst would be if the drake somehow got on and mated a rooster - just as bad, if not worse than drake mating a chicken hen. Not sure if the roosters would allow that, though.

Yes, they’ll need oyster shell or similar. You can just set it in a bowl near by, and they’ll take what they need, when they need it.

True, although these roosters have never even been with hens if that helps

Well hopefully we don't end up getting any drakes🤞

Ok perfect!

Thanks for all the help!

It said "Appleyard have been known to fly well" and I just don't wanna risk that, my fence is about 5 ft
Oooh, okay I see. Don’t wanna risk it at all.
I will say I didn’t think my ducks would fly very high but they fly higher than I thought. 😆 Don’t think they could get over a 5ft fence though.

That's good, I know the magpie should be able to fly 2 or 3 feet but that should be ok
