a house, with a roof.
She is twenty weeks old, and layed her first egg today. Well, I don’t think she was ready to lay it anyways. It got stuck and then broke, and luckily all of it came out. She still looks like how the other EEs looked four weeks ago. Here is a picture taken while she was trying to lay;

Is this normal? I wasn’t expecting an egg from her for another few weeks, but today she decided to surprise me? I’m terribly confused. And I am positive it was her, I watched it come out of her bum.

Hi!
Maybe since it was her first time laying, something could've gone wrong. Check to see if she lays again in a couple of days and see how big the egg is.

Is she the only one that's laying from her entire flock? It's normal for some hens to start laying around 4-5 months- if you are feeding them the appropriate food.

EE generally do not get the large flashy comb and wattles that other birds do. In my experiece 20 weeks old is on the young side for EE to start laying.
One of my other EEs started laying a week ago, and she had a much larger and redder comb when she started. Even my non laying EE has a comb that’s bigger and redder than the one that layed today.

20wks is old enough, they start when they're ready. Glad to hear all came out :fl It takes awhile for their reproductive system to get it together, she may rest a day or so and give you another. The others maybe starting soon also.

What are you feeding your chickens?
Do they have Oyster Shells available for them?
I am feeding them all Flock Raiser with oyster shells in a separate feeder on the side.

When my EE started laying her comb was like yours. I kept thinking it wasnt her because she was only 16 weeks but it was green and my others were supposed to lay brown. Well, it was her as I caught her in the act. Shes been laying around 2 months now and her comb is still pretty small.
