I just went to check on my broody, I just had to hold an egg....IT WAS PEEPING!!!!! How much longer? Will they hatch at night?

Oh my word. I dont think I will sleep at all tonight! Might as well sleep in the coop lol...

Isn't it exciting! I never knew the chicks chirped inside the egg. I just found 6 of our 9 hatched under mama Olivia . I must have miss-counted I thought it would be tomorrow. Is this your first hatch???

I Just came on here to ask the same question. These are my first eggs too. I didn't know eggs chirp either. If you watch them closely they move a little too. I have to give the mom corn just to get her off the nest. Im a little worried cause it's going down to -24 in the next couple of days. My bird is a first time mom and so am I. Well when it comes to birds. I have a question if either one of you can answer it that would be great. I had to dust the coop and the birds for lice on Sat., do you think this will effect the chicks?

So does mama take care of drying them off when they hatch? They are out in the coop (pic below) and I do not have a heat lamp. (husbands a fireman, no way i was geting a heat lamp lol!) I put paper towels over the shavings, except where Mama is laying. Is it ok for them to hatch in shavings? Mama is sitting in the bottom half of a dog carrier, inside the wire cage. I couldnt bear to take her out of it, she was very comfy!

She will take total care of them, soon she will show them how to eat. All you need to do is put chick crumbles on a paper towel. It's the cutest thing ever... she get this guttural cluck going on and walaa those babies will eat. They will need water as well. Maybe in a jar lid or I put marbles in a chick waterier, this is so they don't drown in the water or fall asleep while drinking and drop their head into the water. Nice set up you have. They should be cozy for a while. No heat lamp necessary when you have a REAL Mama on board. Heat lamps are only for the Motherless Child...Oh I mean Chic
