It's going to take some time.

I ordered eggs and they should ship on monday. So in about a month I will be the same as you with my face glued to the glass driving my hubby nuts!

I'm getting all nervous here too. I can just imagine you pacing back and forth and trying to contain the rest of your chickens because they just add to your restlessness. i do hope you hatch all the rest of your eggs

I had my first crack last night too, and 5 more before I left for work this morning. Glad I had to work and glad I am the only one here today or else I'd be running to the farm to check them. May have to close up early lol!

We put 8 in the incubator because I have a rooster who I am not supposed to have, legally, within town limits. We thought, my husband and I, that Herman may have to go away if the neighbors complained, so tried to hatch some while we have fertile eggs. I never thought it would work, becuase my chickens are only about 7 months old, and have only been laying for about 6 weeks. DH wanted to try it, so what the heck. Never thought any would hatch, was just humoring the hubby. But now, out of the 8 eggs, I have one hatched and fluffy little yellow guy, and four eggs with holes in the shells that I can see. The other 3 eggs are not in a good place to get a look at them, so don't know about them. I have been out there probably 3 times every hour for the last 5 hours and my dogs and my husband just went for a drive to get away from me.
Will keep checking in and if the others start coming out of the shells, will let you know. If you hear a news report about a crazy woman in Massachusetts, that'll be me.

Oh the joy of having those little fuzzy butts! I never get tired of it.

so chick number two has come out of the egg, and chick number one is standing on top of chick number two's head! don't know how the first one got up on top of the egg carton, but she's up there, talking to chick number two. was out there not 30 minutes ago, and everything looked the same, one small hole in the shell. Now, 30 minutes later, and the entire top of the shell is off and have another little wet-feathered baby. 6 more eggs left, wil see what happens next. never a dull moment.

Mamadukes what are the breeds and colors of your chicks? Can you post a couple of pictures? I know its hard to get a clear view if you're taking a picture outside the see-through glass of your bator. But maybe when they are fluffy and out of the bator.

I dont know the breeds, although people on here gave me very good ideas. I think they are mutts because they don't actually match exactly any breed. The eggs that are hatching are from a white hen and only have one rooster.

I was looking at the Nasco catalog the other day, i see hova bator makes one with an all clear top...ya still would have to peek around all the works though.

Do you remember any Lamaze stuff...do some deep breathing, visualizing...go look at chicken pics? ;~)

I'm gonna make sure I'm not here when the batch i have in now starts hatching....
