My European Starling would love a friend

The odd couple I kept bickered over food now and again but no death matches. They actually started to try to mimic each others vocalizations which was really cool.
Did you get them at different times? That sounds awesome. Mine is starting the mimic stage but no words yet.

FYI... You're startling is a female. Females have the brown heads, males remain an oily black throughout, with the speckles.
And..... I stuck my foot in it. LOL I decided to do some more research, AFTER I posted. LOL Well, it seems that the brown coloration is indicative of a juvenile and that's all. I had always thought those were females. Cest La Vie...

Hi, I am looking for another Starling.
I live in Utah and have a cousin who rescued a European Starling in July. I’ve adopted it and when it’s not on my shoulder, it’s usually flying around the house singing. It’s cage is a transformed wardrobe where he sleeps so there is room for more. While I’m working I’d like to find him (I think it’s a him) some company. He’s the most social little dude and won’t leave my side for the entire night if I worked that day. I’m not sure how to go about finding him someone to sing to when I’m away. He’s about six months old now, the picture of him and the cat was at 1-3 months. My cousin had him at that time. Is there someone out there with a baby or bonded Starling who would like to let it join our family? Thanks in advance,
Ali

Hi, how neat to find you here! Another rare person who likes birds on the list of reject species....
Starlings are some of the most wonderful birds, I have raised lots of them and cared for injured/ill adults. [I worked with birds as a member of a wildlife rehab organization].

Starlings have delightful personalities and, like yours, tend to be very trusting and tame. They are also some of the bird world`s best mimics - better than parrots and corvids.
We had a disabled starling, raised from nestling, live with us for a number of years. This guy was imitating quail and redtail hawks and mechanical noises in the house. It was a hoot!

Sorry, I don`t have another starling for you.
They are gregarious birds, so two or more would likely get along well together [we always kept several per cage when raising them]. You can also mix different species as long as they are starling-sized. However, few other species will be content as pets.
Plus, there might be legal problems since states consider themselves owners of all wildlife. Be careful.
I worked under my home state`s permit for the wildlife rehab organization, and I also had a personal migratory bird permit.
Nothing like bureaucracy....

Wishing you the best with your bird. Yes, a companion would be great for him while you`re not home.
Maybe you live near a wildlife rehab/rescue organization.
There might be a member/volunteer who`d be willing to give you a starling since you already know how to care for them.
Healthy ones are easy to raise.
Starlings are on an extermination list of reject bird species, so keeping one is [as far as I know] okay.
