I know you will understand!

My "teenage" chicks (4 week olds) were outgrowing their Rubbermaid tote that I was brooding them in...they're not quite ready to go outside with the adult chickens, and in spite of my pleading for DH to build something temporary for them, he hasn't yet....sooooo...I had this pack-n-play just sitting around and I moved them out to the screened porch in it. They are much happier now that they can run around again and spread their wings.

I can just see my mom rolling her eyes.

She already doesn't understand what I see in chickens. She grew up in the country around a lot of chickens and only remembers the smell and the mess they can make.

We're using a Rubbermaid tote, too....and ours is starting to look a little crowded as well. I had never thought of a pack-n-play as an alternative! Hmm....now to somehow talk my brother out of the one they have!

Also, understood completely on your mother rolling her eyes. Mine is still giving me a hard time about the chickens!

Hope your 'teenagers' enjoy the new digs!

Great idea!
My little girls were ready to go out, but not ready to mix with the big girls, so I finally got hubby to build them a "half-way house"

I love the half way house. My DH made ours in 3 hours.... It is still in the house but gives the teens much more room. I would love a pack and play as well, as I have 4 different ages brooding. They are all to young for the big girl pen. Fun fun fun

Very clever idea using the straw bales for a litle hen house. Now all you have to do is add some low roosting poles through the wire in the outside pen or some blocks of wood to stand on so they can have a playground while they are catching up with the rest of the flock.

Hi--I'm new here--but I was just reading your post and we used a Pack-and Play too, after they outgrew the brooder! Except that you are saner than us 'cause we kept it in the tiny bathroom, where the brooder had been...

(We got it off craigslist, it was pretty much ruined by the time they had lived in it for one month.)

Hey, I've got one too!!

I have my 19 pullets in two rubber maid brooders (I merged them)
but I'm wondering now if the pak n' play will give them more room....hmmmmmm.......

Not saner! I'm bringing them in the living room for the night! We live in a 2 BR house with no basement or garage.
