yes I fell awful that any of my chickens would die,but some times we have that special one that makes it worst.
right now I'm out pleading to anyone with answers because the rest of them are in the coop breading heavy.I'm not happy at all believe me. if anyone has any tip clues or can help in anyway please post. thank you

Do you have a thermometer in there? If not, get one and hang or afix well out of their reach (you can get a plastic one for next to nothing at many places). If a bird is breathing real heavy, as you describe, it is struggling and the situation is serious if not abated soon. Give electrolytes with all that panting. In a pinch Pedialtye or Gatorade will do. Can spritz on watermelon as one way to give to them.

What is the size of your coop? (width, depth, height). How many birds?

It's hot and humid today but nothing compared to what tomorrow and Thursday will be, at least here in NJ so if your birds are already struggling, you have a real problem on your hands.

There's lots of great threads about how to keep them cool.
Examples:
Fans (some add AC)
Cold water available at all times (blocks of ice in the water will keep it cold longer)
Cold fruits at intervals (e.g. frozen watermelon slices)
No heavy food in the heat of the day
Shade shade and more shade
Electrolytes when panting is not brief

Keep in mind too that while it might not feel hot to a person, chickens wear feather jackets year round- they're more susceptible to heat than we are.

Well we survived our first summer............It was scary for a while with losing one chicken on the first hot day.But i gave my girls ice water on hot days had the fan running on high everyday and night. And I've come to believe that My EE that died must have eaten some night shade .which I found growing in my back yard. because even on the hottest of days I never saw then breed as heavy as they did the day EE died.
thanks to everyone for the kind words
