My favorite roo broke his beak - UPDATE HE'S GONE :(

Oh my gosh I am so sorry!!!

theres a low percentage that you will get another white from those hens over him as his color is recessive to theirs, so unless the browns carry white you won't get white. But crossing him to your tibetans you should expect some tuxedo chicks, which will have white on their chest (idealy the whole chest and belly would be white but not always). So that may be a good reminder of htem... tuxedos are gorgeous.

So totally UNFAIR!!

I'm so sorry you lost him hun. Seems like you said, always the favorite one. I had a bobwhite that was so tame, even though we purposefully did not hold them, etc., so they wouldn't be tame. Little fella would jump on my shoe when I went in the aviary for me to pick it up. I started picking it up, and giving it a kiss on the head

and putting it back down. Every single time I went in, it jumped on my shoe again. Darn it all if that's not the one that didn't get out, and a dog killed it!

Maybe even if the babies wouldn't hatch out like him, they'll carry the gene and then mating them to something else will give you a white one? I don't know anything about breeding them, so I'm sure someone else will say if that can happen.

when I first got these eggs I was hoping to get alot of birds in diffrent colors but I mostly got browns and 1 Tibetain and than my one little A & M guy so of course he always stood out in the crowd

so as a baby he got held a little more than the others - and when I was spliting my flock into 2 groups - " the keeps " and the " zoo babies " I had to keep him lol

after talking it over with DH I think I am just going to order more eggs and hopefully hatch another little roo as sweet as mine

I would really like to give his girls a break from breeding and let the feathers grow back so for now they will be just laying girls - I do have a color question if I saved one of the darker Tibetain roos and added him to that cage later what colors of babies might I get ?

I would love some Tuxedos but not sure I understand the color thing - I need to hatch eggs fathered by my A & M and take a female from them and breed back to one of the Tibetains in order to get a Tuxedo ?

( sorry I get confused with all the talk of breeding certain colors lol )

now that is a chart even I can understand LOL

when I first got my quail I never knew there were names for all the colors - I just thought " oh pretty theres a white one or a dark brown " LOL

guess I should have figured it was not going to be that easy LOL

in the pen my A & M roo was in he had 3 girls all are jumbo browns

in the other pen are the extra roos -- 2 are jumbo browns and 1 is a Tibetan male but the 4th has a bald spot starting on the back of the head so I am wondering if it is a hen after all ( also a Tibetan my A & M roo was never in this cage )

guess I need to try my hand at vent sexing
