My feed store has blue wyandottes!!!

I lost my rooster before I had a chance to really check fertility. Most of the eggs I incubated weren't fertile though, but my rooster was so lazy that I only saw him breeding a hen once!! I will be interested to see how mine do. I have read that fertility can be a problem, as I'm sure you well know, in the Wyandottes. I now have 4 wk old BLRW chicks and fertility in this line looks good. I hatched them from shipped eggs and of 18 only one wasn't fertile.

I've never had a problem with the fertility of my BLRWs. In fact every egg I've put in this year has hatched and the last couple of years it was good too. It took a little while , but now my SLW eggs are doing well too in the fertility department. One thing is they're a breed that is slow to mature so I think it takes longer for their fertility to get where it should be.

You sound like you have been raising Wyandottes for a long time? I'll bet I could learn a lot from you!

What lines are your BLRW's? Mine are Greg Catt's and Paul's. I'm hoping to ad some from Bill Braden. I'm on his waiting list for hatching eggs.

jossanne~ Thought you might like to see what the Blue Wyandottes look like as 5 month old pullets. The other chicks with them are Buff Wyandottes, also from Privett. I ended up selling the Buff and keeping the Blues. I am short on space right now.

Chickee, your first pic isn't showing up on my computer. Did you delete it already? Your birds are beautiful! Makes me even more excited for when my girls are big! And don't tell my hubby, but I'm secretly crossing my fingers that one of my 6 is a cockerel.

Sorry! I goofed!! I will send it again plus pictures of rooster chicks- they are very easy to feather sex in this line of BW's!! It will take me a little while since I have SLOW dial-up!!

Here is the picture I accidently deleted!

The rooster chick is in the center with the blue paint on his head, marked by Privett Hatchery. Note the shape of the wings and how small they are compared to the pullet chicks with him at the same age. They are around two weeks old in this picture. Blurry picture, but the best I have to show you the difference.

My girl is from Privett too! She is a champion egg layer when she's not trying to go broody.

Her name is Tammy Wynette. Her eggs range from Med. to Large.

Enjoy your blue wyandottes!

hello fellow Californian

Your Tammy Wynette looks just like one of my BW hens! Doesn't she look sweet! I have a broody BW that has been sitting on an empty nest for weeks! I'm not bothering her because I have eggs being shipped to me soon and I'm going to give her some to hatch.

They're so beautiful! I'm really really glad I got my blue wyandotte girls now. Thanks for the comparison pic Chickee... I'll watch for slow wing growth.

YAY I'm so excited! All those BW's are gorgeous, and I hope mine look that nice!
