Hi everyone,
After a bad two weeks (one unexpected chicken death and a flock all with colds) we've got our second chicken (out of 7) who is now laying! And she laid us a beautiful little blue egg today.
I'm just not sure who its from.... so Ill have to put the trail camera up in the coop to find out!!
Here is a picture..... and the 2nd pic is along with the white one from the corner store and the brown ones from our Buff Orpington, who started laying 2 weeks ago. Pretty soon by other EE's and my Maran should start laying. YAY!

Congratulations! One of my cream legbars laid her first egg today as well. I am not sure who did it as I have 7 of them. I just found it in the nest box. It is more green than blue though, so I am hoping the others lay eggs that are bluer than this one. It is so fun when they start to lay.

That color is unusual for Legbars. I have several of the breed, and they all lay pure sky-blue eggs. That egg looks more like an EE egg which can start out blue, then get a delicate red tint over it after passing through the shell glad so it appears greenish. Are you sure an EE egg didn't get mixed in with your Legbar eggs when they were incubating? That happened to me, and I now have an EE/Legbar cross. She's a sweetheart and my only mix in my flock.

Well, they all look like legbars. LOL. I would have no idea as I ordered these as day old chicks from a gal in Florida. They all looked like legbar chicks when they arrived. I was hoping for blue eggs.

Thanks! Yes, I was quite surprised, as the breeder who I bought from said they were green egg layers and that he didn't have any blue layers?? HE also told me that 3 of my original 8 were Auracauna, but I read someplace that to tell the difference- between Auracauna and Easter Eggers is Easter Eggers have tails, and Auracuana don't. Is that right? My 3 have tails! I will post a pic of them all tomorrow and post in the breeds section - maybe someone can tell me what they think.
No blue egg today, but I remember that our other hen (Big Red) didnt start out as an egg a day either- it took her a few days before that happened. Heres hoping for another tomorrow. We will blow them out and make tree ornaments out of them since we are waiting a month before eating the eggs, since they were on meds.

Ya... this one is a little greener that some but not to bad. I would take the greener ones over a pale colored on any day. Congrats. Looks like a good egg.

I got another one today! Don't know if it is the same hen or not though as I cannot tell them apart. She just went right into the nest box and laid an egg! Same color as yesterday's so maybe the same hen? Wish the other 6 would take the hint and start laying.
