We built this last summer/fall, without a whole lot of experience. We consulted some books that had pictures of coops, but no real plans or specifics. Now that I've found actual plans for sale on line, I think we will go that rout.

Here is the egg door on the back side.

Fancy schmancy! Makes my refrigerator box look a little lame in comparison.

Okay, how come fridge has a 'd', but refrigerator doesn't??????

Ya, I picked that up at Ollie's discount store last week for $5. I thought they would like it, but they are still mostly under my steps at the hottest part of the day.

Yes, there is a "second floor" inside, half of which is roosts, and other other half is plywood with nest boxes. The top half that is slanted also opens up for cleaning, but we made the door too heavy, so it's very hard to open. The lower door that's propped up was a pre-fab screened door and now it's falling apart, so we will have to replace it.

I'm considering replacing the pre-fab screen door with a solid piece of plywood. I usually leave it open, and it will help provide shade, which we are in short supply...

Any thoughts?

Well I did replace the door with a solid piece of treated plywood. It keeps their area dryer and shaded, so I like it much better than the screen door.
