For the longest time I've wanted to raise chickens. I now have a tractor/coop I'm building from the ground up. It will hold at least 15 hens and I can move it around my property with my truck! Why do it by hand when a machine can do the work? Haha! My wife calls it the "Coop Hilton" I love the whole process. Watching them grow from chicks to hens!! I love my birds and want them to be happy!
I do have a question, I have a chick that some how broke its lower jaw. It still eats but is now half the size of the others in the flock. I fear she is getting to small and weak! I've never had to put a chicken down before. Does anyone have any ideas on the fastest and humane way?
Thanks

Welcome to BYC! I would love to see pictures of your tractor/coop and birds!

Sorry to hear about your injured chick, I don't have any advice though...fortunately I haven't had to cull any birds yet.

! Pleased you joined us! I know when I process chickens for eating I will simply lie them down on a wooden surface and use an axe or hatchet to remove the head. It sounds brutal but it is instantaneous. Tough job - but you are doing the right thing.

You are all so kind! Thanks Red Socks! It's hard because you don't want her to suffer but at the same time you hope she pulls through!
I will have pictures of my coop soon! Thanks for all your help!
