I first got chickens about 9 years ago, at the beginning of HS- joined 4-H and somehow was able to convince my parents to let me get some chicks. (Mom was easy to convince and then she managed to convince dad :D )

My first chicks were from a local guy, we got a dozen day old chicks from him, and while I don't have pics of all of them, I thought I'd share at least some:

This is Gizmo, by far the best and my absolute favorite chicken. It took me a LOOOONG time to figure out he was a rooster- pretty much until he crowed. He had the sweetest disposition, and would follow me around in the yard, come when called and in the spring and summer just hang out with me on nice days.

When i got chicks that first time, my only silkie was Gizmo, but I soon fell in love with them and we got a couple more hens, one of which is this sweet girl named Imelda.

Imelda, being the broody silkie that she was, was determine to hatch out some eggs no matter the time of year. We gave her some eggs end of december/ january time and she managed to hatch out 1 chick- Arctic. Besides being born on the coldest week of winter, also happened to be a somewhat nasty chicken, don't know how that happened with sweet Gizmo as the father. (and I think the mother was a black jersey giant, but not sure... but mother was definitely not white, didn't have any white chickens at the time) But The nice thing was that Arctic had the softest feathers!!

One of the shows that my mom and i went to had an auction and I got a pair of Rosecomb bantams- named Salt and Pepper.

they were super sweet, and I got into showing these little guys, and got some more eggs, and Imelda hatched out a few more babies. 2 chicks hatched out, Teeny and Tiny (I know, super original :p)

One of my favorite Rosecombs was a rooster named Trooper

He also was a really sweet guy, just like Gizmo.

I don't know how interested people are in seeing these pics, but I just wanted to post the thread so I could look at their pictures again. I don't have any of these guys anymore and it makes me sad, but at the same time, Im really happy having chickens again. (And maybe someday will get another silkie rooster!)

Wow, you have a very pretty flock! Love the white ears on the Rosecombs. You gave them some cute names too.

Thanks for sharing your flock!
