My first chicks! Hatched 6/2

I picked up my very first chicks this past weekend. I got 8, all different breeds. Theres a blue Orpington, blue Australorp, barred rock, golden laced Wyandotte, easter egger, buff Orpington, welsummer, and Rhode Island Red.

Adorable babies, and some day, they will produce a lovely basket of colorful eggs -- which is hard to imagine when they are so tiny now. Congratulations on your new fuzzballs!

I just got my first chicks, also 8, also this past weekend, also hatched on 6/2. Pretty exciting, isn't it? I will admit your brooder is much cleaner than mine, and I've already cleaned it once. My girls are pooping fools. I'm tempted to clean the brooder daily but trying not to overwork it. We should join a new chicks club. Oh, wait, we just did

What a fun coincidence! One of mine died this morning though

when I went in to check on them she was lethargic and wheezy, didn't last 6 hours after that...it was my barred rock

Make sure they know where food, water, and heat is. What sort of bedding are they on? Cedar shavings are BAD, they have oils that make it hard for chicks to breathe.

They do, she was eating and drinking the day before. They're on pine flake bedding from Tractor Supply.

One of my chicks, my Welsummer named Alice, keeps picking at a particular feather on one of her wings. She's picked it to the point of it bleeding. Any ideas why?
