Hi everyone,
I've been dropping in for info and decided to join today.
I have 3 buff orpington chicks, Tigger, Daydream who we call DeeDee, and Trixie. They will soon be 3 weeks old.
My parents had chickens briefly when I was a child. This is my first hands on experience and I'm really enjoying it.
I had no idea that chickens were such friendly and entertaining birds. And smart too!
These chicks are strictly for companionship and laying. When they're older, they will retire here and live a life of leisure.
I hope to add a couple more chicks next year, and eventually have a flock of about 6. That way I can keep some younger birds coming in for the eggs.
My current daily challenge is researching all the things good for them, and all things bad. Particularly with food.
Everything is new for me. I started to get chicks each year for about 5 years, but each time I researched and read I would get discouraged and say "forget it". This time I just just said "cluck it" and jumped right in.
So far, so good. I was concerned the first week that I would kill them. But hey, they survived!
Looking forward to hearing about your flocks.
