My first coop...a pallet coop.

Thanks for all the kind words and replys guys!!! I am no carpenter and I am just doing this as I go in my head. That door frame I did last night was the first door frame I have ever done. SarniaTricia Yeah, it was pretty wobbly on the front near where the door is until I installed the door frame and a cross member behind the header that you can't see in the picture; after all that, it tremendously increased the rigidity and now she is rock solid and ready for some siding and a roof!

When I first moved to Colorado last year about this time, I answered a couple of adds for free pallets to burn. One company said they were out when I called and the other company told me to come and get them. The company that informed me to come and get them has pallets made of 3x3s 10' long and 2x4s across. (easy to disassemble) That company owner now has me in his personal phone and calls me to pick up pallets, 55gal poly drums, and other used building material.

Now, the first company I called (9 months ago) just called me 2 weeks ago and asked me to get the pallets. I asked how many they had and the lady informed me "about 100". When I arrived.....there was about 800! I still have to pick up more this weekend....longer ones made with 16' 2x4s!!
Since I have 36 acres.....I'll take em' as long as someone is getting rid of them....LOL I have already given wood to co-workers to make gardens in town! I'm a redneck and I love free stuff!! All it takes is a bit of time and effort!

So far: (6) full pallets and (6) half pallets for the walls, (3) pallets for the floor and (4) pallets worth of 2x4's that I joined end to end to make rafters. So, I guess about 16 pallets total.

Ok, here is the latest. Been kinda side tracked for a few days, this evening I put the roof decking on. So far, all I have in this coop is $31.

Looks good but a bit narrow for me, also the pallet under the door looks like it's sagging. Did you use any blocking to support the middle?

Ok, here is the latest. I built the frame for the nesting box this evening...looks pretty good. Thanks for looking.
