Lovely! One suggestion, invest in hardware cloth. Chicken wire keeps chickens in. That's it. I will not keep out a dog or a raccoon. Raccoons are the worst. Smart and dangerous. Otherwise, it is very very nice!

depends where they live,we dont have racoons here but we sure do have desperate foxes,have heard from some BYCers that eagles have been their worst predator,just as well we only get pigeons and starlings.

You have an adorable coop and I also love your waterer. I've already built a feeder with PVC similar to yours but still have to work on the waterer. Yours looks fantastic!!!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. The new pullets are adjusting nicely, still seem to be afraid of me but I figured in a couple days after they calm down I will entice them with some special treats or something. I am already thinking of how to make their run bigger and started a small mealworm farm today. This site sure is addicting!

How is that poop board working for you under the roost? It may be the pic, but it looks kind of narrow...although I may be basing that judgement on my own hens' ability to projectile poop over the edge of their own 20" poop board

I wouldn't worry too much about the chicken wire on the run if you have a fenced yard and a chicken-friendly pooch. As long as you shut the girls up in the coop every night they should be pretty well protected. I would, however, look into using hardware cloth (or even doubling or tripling the chicken wire if you have some left, to create smaller gaps) on the vents and windows of the coop. That's where the chickens are when they are most vulnerable, and when the worst predators are likely to come and visit.

And as soon as those mealworms are ready, your chickens will think you are the best thing ever!
