Ok thanks Junebuggena. Yea ya never know when that raccoon will bring his step ladder with him when he goes coop raiding.

They don't need step ladders. They can stand on their hind legs and easily reach 3 ft up. They are also very good climbers.

NICE!!!! I used a lot of recycled material for mine as well. I did have to buy my lumber (for framing), concrete (for frame post stability, we deal with high winds sometimes), nails, and screws though. I also had to buy chicken wire. Cost really wasn't too bad at all though when all was said and done. I used a trampoline frame and old canopy tent poles to create my frame for my run, then we used siding, doors, and windows from a dilapidated camper for the walls, roof, door, and window ventilation on the coop.

I noticed that you have your coop sitting on concrete blocks with one leg leveled with a small block of wood. I am just starting to build my coop and currently my coop is situated just like your. It's sitting on blocks and I even have one leg propted up like yours, I wasn't sure if this was going to sturdy enough but really don't want to have to do more work then I have to. So I was wondering if you plan on leaving your coop like that? If not what changes do you think you might make? Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to offer.

Thanks so much for the the compliments and ideas everyone. To answer your question SF, I am going to add some soil under that block to raise it up. I just stuck that shim under that leg when I was cutting out that window. I wanted to make sure it was level before making that cut. Just goin to add some soil under that cement block until its level. Simple fix. To be honest I totally forgot that I still had that shim under that leg. Lol thanks for reminding me. Next I will be adding my sliding door, couple more windows, and last will be my nesting boxes. Chicks are only 9 weeks old so the nesting box isnt something that needs to be done right away. Thanks again everyone for all the help.

I plan on doing something similar but maybe with a 5 gallon bucket and not connecting it to my hose connection. I always worry that some plastic part will fail when I'm not home and I'll come home to a flood of water. I've read those nipples will work with very little water pressure so the water source just needs to be a few feet higher than the nipples. I'm probably just paranoid about potentially wasting water b/c I live in Ca and pay an are and a leg for water, I think either way is fine though
