After 10 months preparation, I finally attended my first Poultry Show. I entered 4 of my Indian Runners and came home with two 1st place cards, 1 second place card, Champion Indian Runner and Champion Light Waterfowl. I never expected to do so well with it being my first show. I still have a lot to learn about pen training birds and giving them the final touches on the day.
Anyway..here is my wonderful girl who has won herself a lovely ribbon.

Congratulations! That's such a wonderful result for your first show! Beautiful runner girl, too.

I hope someday if/when I enter a show, I do that well! One can only wish.

Thank you all so much. It was an intersting day. Got to speak with the Judge about my birds and how I can improve them and what I should be breeding for. Its so hard to find any information or photos of Harlequin Runners - so its so good to know I have some great birds. I actually thought my drake who won second place was better than the one who did win - But have now learnt why Goggleduck is better than Quin. Unfortunately my third Drake had started molting on Wednesday and was missing a few feathers. I nearly didnt take him but thought it was still a good oppotunity to speak to a waterfowl judge about his potential since he is still very young.

Extra special dinner tonight for all of my ducks..They can all celebrate the win.

That's great! And hey, the molting one probably gave extra points to the other by showing up...IMO, if everyone waited to bring birds till they were ALL perfect, there wouldn't be so many to look at at the shows, and in some instances it can help your other stock. There can always be something worse, especially at this time of year. If you don't take them, they can't place at all.
