This morning I found my first egg on the floor of the coop. I have 25 pullets so I'm not sure who did it but I suspect one of the barred rocks or black australorps. I'm so excited. Can't wait to see if there are more tomorrow.

here it is next to a large grocery store egg.

Congratulations!

That is a very nice egg for a first timer.

Beautiful egg for a first, congratulations!!! It's so much fun getting those first eggs. My BR was the first in my flock to lay and has been pretty consistant since that first egg back in Aug. I only have 4 hens that are old enough and yesterday was the first day that I got 4 eggs in one day. I hope that you get more tomorrow but if it takes a few days to see more don't worry, it just might take time for them to get consistant. Do you have golf balls or fake eggs in your nesting boxes?

Whoot whoot!!
Congratulations!!
Nice looking egg.
My first was today also.
I am going to switch to "big girl food" now. (layer feed)
Is that right? no more chick food ??

Congrats on your first egg! It's exciting! Yes, switch to layer. I just switched a week or two ago when I ran out of the chick starter. My pullets are 20 weeks old today.

That is really awesome for your first egg! It is quite common for the girls to lay a "chicken fart" at first (a tiny egg w/ no yolk, I've seen some as small as a bumble bee, maybe those should be called chicken boogers!)

Anyway, there is really nothing like getting your first egg. My girls started laying in the Fall. we still love going out to check the nesting box.

Congratulations!
