One of our 3 "Easter" chicks layed her first egg yesterday (not sure which one) and we were very excited!
Hope we get many more!

howdy i had posted a topic saying my 1st chickens i have ever raised laid her first egg yesterday but she's bantam size..... wil they get bigger? its so small its not funny!also i didn't put a nesting box in their hutch yet so she made a little hole in the straw and thats were i found it. do i still need one?also she hasn't been laying them by noon i found her 1st one yesterday at 5pm.why?will she get earlier?

If you have a bantam hen laying, her egg will not get any bigger.

I guess it depends on you and the amount of space you have in your hutch, but I would say yes. If she is a bantam then a shoe box will work. Not saying that she will lay in it though.

Now as far as the time of day, well that just depends on the chicken. There is no set time limit that they "have" to lay. I have some that lay in the morning and some that lay in the evening. So you will just have to check from time to time and see if she has laid.
